The Cardi

Wow, it’s Week 4…already…time to chillax with a new cardi! When you think of a cardigan, do you think of a chunky wool sweater knit by your Grandma with buttons down the front? Not that that’s a bad thing. I would love to have a hand knit sweater like that. With this cardi though, we’re talking soft breathable bamboo, updated design details, hidden side seam pockets, and no buttons.

The Vesna

The Vesna is one of my favourite designs. It’s a simple classic style that’s easy to wear. No buttons or zippers to fiddle with. Just slip it on and you’ve got a warm and comfy layer to work in, whether that’s out in the world or on zoom. Or, to lounge around at home in.

It has a bamboo rib trim that hugs your neck, flows down the front, and encircles the hem. The same rib is used for the wide cuff on the sleeve which gently hugs your forearm and makes it easy to push up and stays in place. The rib side panels are an added detail that comfortably skim your body. Hidden side seam pockets make it easy to carry those little things you need handy, or to simply plunge your hands into which I like to do. The bamboo is so soft and cozy you may never want to take it off.

The Name

The other reason I love the Vesna is the woman behind the cardigan. Vesna was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012 and went through the standard treatment of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. In 2017, she learned that the cancer had returned and spread to other parts of her body which has required her to return to active treatment for metastatic breast cancer (MBC).

Since then, Vesna has become a vocal advocate for the MBC community. She is one of the founding members of O.M.G., the Ottawa Monthly Gathering of younger women diagnosed with breast cancer. She is also a member of the Rethink Breast Cancer’s MBC Advisory Board and has become an inspiring and courageous spokesperson to bring about awareness, education, and change in our healthcare system for women living with MBC.

It is my immense privilege to have Vesna lend her name to this design and to donate a percentage of my annual sales to Rethink’s MBC Fund. To learn more about Vesna and her work in the community, check out: Metastatic Breast Cancer: An Advocate is Born.

Yes, I’d like a Vesna
